For my preliminary task i worked with Nikki. I feel that it went well and we worked together effectively as a team to get the task done. For the task we had to film and edit a person opening a door, walkin across a room, sitting down in a chair opposite another person and exchanging a few lines of dialouge. We had to demonstrate match on actoin, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. I think we effectively met this brief. Before getting started we planned out exactly what we wanted to do. We used a storyboard to map out what the characters were going to do aswell as where the camera would be placed, the shot types, sound and camera movement. We also wrote a script so that the actors knew what they were going to be saying. We chose two fellow media students to take part in our scene as they were willing to help. Initially we had had an idea of where we wanted to film it in our heads so we then went to find the location and see if it was suitable.
We then showed the actors our script and went through what we wanted them to do. Then we started filming. Nikki filmed the first shot on one day as i wason an art trip then the next day we filmed the rest together. However we encountered a small problem in that it said the SD card was 'protected'. Luckily we had a spare on and filmed on that. We took 3 takes of each scene and it didn't take us long. We then took the SD cards back so that they could be loaded onto the macs for editing. It turned out that we had acidently locked the first SD card and thats why we couldn't film onto it. When we went onto the macs we opened the folder, it turned out that the shot from the first SD card was not there. We decided to edit the sequence first and then add it in once finished but when we had completed it we decided that it did not need the first shot. To edit out clips we opened up the editing software and inserted our clips. We then cut them to the desired length to make them flow as we were trying to give the effect of invisible editing. We added slugs's at the begining and end and placed a title over the one at the start. We then saved it as a Quicktime file.
When i watched it back i was really pleased with the way it turned out. I think it runs smoothly and the editing is almost invisible i like the use of the

close up of the boots. I think we could have improved the sound as sometimes it was a little tricky to hear what they were saying. We hd to shoot some of the shots more than 3 times because of people walking into the scene and causing disruption. However this was inevitable as we were filming it in an open place. I think considering this we did well. I also like the opening shot with the rose garden as the background. It was mentioned that we could have had it fade back up at the end to show Chloe still talkiing and Alison asleep, this would have made it more humerous but we didn't think of it at the time. I think that our transitions were well chosen-we only used fades at the start and end using a plain cut for the rest as we did not want it to look as if time was passing between shots.
In conclusion i think that we effectively produced a preliminary task that met its criteria. As well as this we worked well together and used it as a learning experience in which we explored filming and editing and overcame some pit falls.
